On the occasion of the annual festival of the Puces de Saint-Ouen, to be held on September 26, the fashion designer will inaugurate an unprecedented installation. An initiative that comes a little more evidence of the latter's love for the aesthetic references imprinted by history.
Placed this year under the theme « Corpus, language in the arts », the Fête des Puces de Saint-Ouen 2024 entrusted carte blanche to Simon Porte Jacquemus to imagine an exclusive exhibition/installation composed of pieces chined there and there in its famous alleys.
« Puces are an infinite source of inspiration, a place where history and creativity meet », explains Simon Porte Jacquemus. « As far as I'm concerned, chining at the Puces is an act of creation in itself. The base of a chair can inspire the design of a shoe. Fashion and architecture are consubstantial ».
An art, decoration and architecture féru, Simon Porte Jacquemus regularly shares his vintage inspirations on his personal Instagram account. References also found in his parades, including his Spring-Summer 2024 collection presented in the middle of the Sculptures of the Maeght Foundation of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, or his recent anniversary show organized on the roof terrace of the villa Malaparte, spotted notably in film « The Mepris », by Jean-Luc Godard (1963).
To design this installation for the Puces de Saint-Ouen, the designer was able to make a selection of some 1,200 antique shops and brokers installed within the various spaces of the market. Among the china specimens, the organizers mention works from the current Memphis Milano, cubist furniture, Mourgue mirrors, plaster sculptures or Roman torsos.
